Medieval Composers: (born before 1150): St. Kassia

St. Kassia (also known as St. Kassiane, Kassiani, Casia, Ikasia, Cassia, Cassiane, Kassiana, or Eikasia was a Byzantine abbess, composer, poet, and hymnographer.

Biography
She was born 810 in Constantinople into a wealthy family.
She said to have been very beautiful.
Three Byzantine chroniclers, Pseudo-Symeon the Logothete,
George the Monk, and Leo the Grammarian claimed that
she was a participant in the "bride show". She died in
865, age 55.
